Life drawing has been a constant activity for Andrew. Weekly sessions squeezed into a room with other artists, all striving to capture that elusive essence of of the human spirit, everyone’s attentions focussed on drafting those lines, that can be oh so elusive when we chase them around the paper with our charcoal, yet we instinctively recognise when they are correct.
Andrew has explored many illustrative media, charcoals, graphite, pastels, paint and inks. This cumulative experience can be seen in this new collection of digital work, where he combines analogue and digital sensibilities to produce seemingly impossible viewpoints and abstractions, to capture poses in the highest detail that would be momentary if working direct from life.
The resulting works contain the sensitive lines of the craftsperson, with tonal values that photographers would labour to achieve, yet the results seem to possess the life and spontinaity of the life drawing sessions that were the initial inspiration. Each print is an original Giclée print, printed on heavyweight textured paper with a torn edge, using museum quality inks.
